Description

Japan, an island nation, has lands stretching as far south as the Ryukyu Islands, once known as the Ryukyu Kingdom. Suna Hana, meaning Sand Flower, is a thick katana blade that was elegantly crafted in very limited quantities, making this the ultimate collector’s item.

From top to bottom, the sword measures 42 inches in the Saya, and has a blade length of 28.6 inches. At 7.5mm thick, it is also extraordinarily sturdy, tougher than the land which it historically is named after. The Tsuba (hand guard) is 8mm thick of solid brass and depicts the 5 pedal flower. Tang length through the handle is 9.25 inches, making this a full tang katana.

Two features on this katana combine to make this one of the most interesting swords:

Firstly, it has a safety release button. The sword cannot be drawn from the Saya until you have fully depressed the safety button, located Fuchi (collar next the Tsuba hand guard). It would require some pressure to fully depress that little button.

Secondly, the Saya of this Ryukyu style katana is wrapped entirely in genuine animal skin leather. The leather has been properly colored with a reddish tint and hand stitched the entire length with very thick silk string. Head to toe, this thing is covered with soft, smooth, refined leather. At the top of the leather there are three closure snaps which allow you to unbutton the top and use it or show it off.

There is also a solid brass ring which can be used as a placeholder for a Sageo wrap or other attachment.
